Book Review: Teach Me To Pray

As a mother, I don’t just want my children to say empty prayers, I want them to actually know the God they’re speaking to. That changes the way that they approach God in prayer. That’s why I’m so thankful for Teach Me to Pray by Kristen Wetherell. This isn’t fluff. It’s not shallow, feel good language. It’s rooted in Scripture and gently teaches our children how to bring their real hearts before the Lord, whether that’s joy, anger, confusion, or repentance.

I’ve seen firsthand how easy it is for kids to feel like they don’t “have the right words” when it comes to prayer. This book removes that pressure and instead trains them, biblically, how to speak to God using His Word as their foundation. That matters deeply to me. Because we’re not raising children who just go through motions, we’re raising children who walk in truth, who understand who God is, and who learn to depend on Him in every season.

One of my favorite things is how each devotion anchors prayer in Scripture. For example, when it walks through confession, it brings in truth like 1 John 1:9 reminding our children that when we confess our sins, He is faithful to forgive. It’s not just teaching them what to say, but why we can come boldly before the Lord in the first place. It’s training their hearts in truth.

This is discipleship in the everyday moments, and I’m here for it.

If you’re intentional about building a biblical foundation in your home, this is a beautiful and solid place to start. CQM approved!
