How To Begin A Non Toxic Lifestyle

Hello! I’m so glad that YOU are here. Whatever brought you here I’m glad to have your attention for a few minutes. Chances are you’re looking to begin your non toxic journey. You’ve been wanting to live a more natural, healthier life. You may not know where to begin and your list of questions is long. I get it, I’ve been there myself. Take this as a sign or confirmation to take the plunge. I am here to help you! This is one of the best changes you can make for your family. I will be sharing 5 easy steps to help you begin your non toxic journey.

How do you even begin a toxin free life? Do you need to throw away all the things in your house and start over? Not exactly, but there are some products I’ll beg you to trash immediately haha. It’s important to note that once you jump down the rabbit hole, a whole lot of unraveling is going to take place. A lot of unlearning and relearning. Beginning a non-toxic lifestyle can seem overwhelming at first, but it doesn’t have to be. When it comes to lifestyle changes, it’s all about practicality & intentionality!

If you’re anything like me, you want jump in headfirst and make ALL the changes all at once. Learn from my mistakes, that doesn’t help your sanity or your bank account. You’ve got to pace yourself and make changes gradually. Begin with eliminating the most toxic products from your home.

First things first, you’ve got to know your WHY & pick a starting point. Going non toxic may seem intimidating, but even making a few small changes can make a huge difference. I want to make this very clear – do NOT get discouraged. Don’t read this post and think nope can’t do it. It takes time. This is a process! The goal is never perfection but progress. You got this!

Alright alright, now I want to share a few steps I have taken and the areas, that are in my humble opinion, priority. Throughout this journey remember to celebrate every change. No change is to small. Don’t get discouraged and press on.

1. Start Reading Labels

I am a proud label reader. I can’t imagine not reading a label haha Once you start reading labels you will without a doubt be appalled at all the toxic and unnecessary crap in your favorite products. Make sure to check out my list of ingredients to avoid. It’s not exhaustive but it’s a start.

2. Choose Clean Produce And Meat

Start with researching pesticides and how harmful they are. I understand that going completely organic can be a little too much for some people, as it can get expensive. Health is an investment! The truth is you’re either investing in your health or in your sickness. Let’s choose the latter. So beginning with organic produce and meats is the best first swap.

3. Switch Out Your Cleaning Products

Cleaning products are amongst the most toxic products in the home. They are loaded with poisons and carcinogens. Ain’t nobody got time for that, you DO NOT need all that toxicity! You can get BETTER results with safe ingredients that you already most likely have in your pantry. Brand marketing really got us good. We do not need a a different cleaner for every different surface. A simple yet effective DIY all purpose spray will suffice. Feel free to check out my DIY all purpose cleaner recipe.

4. Grab A Trash Bag And Rid Your Home Of Artificial Frangrances

This is a non negotiable, an absolute must. There are more than 300 toxic ingredients that fall under the umbrella of “fragrance” or “parfum” and those toxic fumes are blowing and lingering in your home 24/7 and soaking in your skin (your biggest organ). Where can you find these artificial fragrances? In candles, air fresheners, detergents, plug in’s, perfume, lotion, soap and the list goes on. Replacements? Absolutely! There are so many options. I’ll be sharing tons of DIY recipes here on my blog.

5. Pick Your Starting Point

Starting your non toxic journey may seem pretty intimidating but it doesn’t have to be. Small changes make a huge difference. If you were to swap out your deodorants, shampoo and detergent you will already have eliminated 84 different toxins your family is exposed to. With that said, pick your starting point and make the swap.

I’m truly so excited for you! Remember this is a journey, not a sprint. Do the research. Get informed. Invest in your health. Make the swaps gradually. Don’t play the compare yourself game to people who are further along in this journey. We all had a starting point and we are all definitely still learning. Take it step by step, day by day. Here’s to living a more informed and healthier life…
