The Biggest Story ESV Holy Bible for Kids: A Biblical Mom’s Review
As a mom of six, one of the things I care most about is giving my children a genuine love for God’s Word, not simply teaching them Bible stories, but helping them understand that the Bible is one big story of God’s redemptive plan, and that Jesus is at the center of it.
That is one of the things I immediately appreciated about The Biggest Story Holy Bible for Kids from Crossway.
This isn’t a children’s Bible that replaces Scripture with simplified stories. It contains the full ESV Bible text, while surrounding children with tools that help them actually understand what they’re reading. And as a mom who wants my children to grow in wisdom, discernment, and biblical literacy, that matters to me.
Each book of the Bible has an introduction with things like a summary, timeline, author information, and character profiles. There are also 104 highlighted Bible stories throughout the actual Bible text, followed by “Digging Deeper” sections that encourage children to learn, reflect, discover, and pray. There are even helpful definitions, key verses, maps, and little sidebars that connect what they’re reading to the bigger picture of Scripture.
I don’t think I’m alone when I say that I don’t my children to know that Noah built an ark, David fought Goliath, or Daniel was thrown into a lions’ den. I want them to understand why those stories are in the Bible. I want them to see God’s character. I want them to recognize sin and redemption. I want them to see God’s faithfulness throughout generations. And ultimately, I want them to see Jesus throughout the whole story of Scripture.
That’s the kind of biblical foundation I’m building toward in my home. And aesthetically? This Bible is beautiful without feeling childish. The artwork by Don Clark is engaging and colorful. I got this for my 8 year old son and he loves it so much!
As a mom, I also appreciate that this gives me another opportunity to sit beside my children and open the Word with them. Because discipleship in our home isn’t about handing our children a Bible and checking a box. I’m inviting them into the Word of God and teaching them how to live there.
My desire is that my children know and love the God of the Bible. And resources like this can help make that pursuit more accessible, engaging, and meaningful for young readers. For families looking for a Bible for children around ages 6–12, this is one I would genuinely recommend.
The goal is to raise children who know, love, understand, and live by the Word of God.
